Why School Camps Should Not Be Banned!

Making school camps banned is a huge ERROR! So let’s all, including YOU not allow this terrible experience to happen for all the reasons below! “!!KEEP SCHOOL CAMPS GOING, KEEP SCHOOL CAMPS GOING!!”

Firstly let me get one point straight, so listen closely!  R-E-M-O-V-I-N-G school camps can affect on the student’s life, it will not allow them to overcome their own fears and limitations, they will not grow in confidence and self esteem, they will stay in their own little “comfort zone” and will eventually “not step out of it”. They will not know how it feels like to go camping with their own classmates and will not exactly learn the proper development of team-building and leadership skills. It’s also a shame if they do not manage to take risks and learn to reflect or challenge themselves and learn to develop an appreciation for nature, but with school camps they would be able to accomplish everything above which by now you should have guessed that school camps give students a great and important part of life.

Have YOU ever wondered what’s so important about going camping or why there is such things as school camps? Well I have and here are my good strong reasons to answer that. Like I have said school camps are a huge part of your life that help you with challenges that you’ll get along your journey and techniques that at some point you will need. School camps also make you stronger and braver, because YOU are the only one there to help yourself and to overcome anything that gets in your way, since your parents are at home. That’s why teachers and principals have decided to create school camps, because it’s a way of having fun but at the same time learning really important skills. So by now you should probably know that school camps actually take you a step further in life. Hopefully that had answered the question.

Now, school camps is not just about having fun and learning, even though it seems like it’s about that and other people have said that, it can actually be about a whole different thing; such as making new friends, achieving new goals that you will need in your life and etc….. You will also see how wildy you can be with nature and how you can find out new things you never knew.

Okay, so this is my last word: DO NOT NEVER EVER BAND SCHOOL CAMP therefore if it happened you are most likely to not achieve as much in your life and will not learn a whole new update for YOU AND YOUR FUTURE!  Basically what I am trying to say here is that school camps isn’t just another excursion or another field trip, it’s something that you will remember and learn, something that will give you the best experiences of your life and something that will change you forever (in a good way of course) ! So remember that school camps are just as important as YOU!

Confirmation

Last Friday on the 5th of September, the year six students from Holy Family School and  the Holy Family Parish community received their confirmation.  It was all very exciting on the night. Everyone had a reading or a position to do. My friend Bianca, Celina and Caterina and I all did a reading except my friend Ashanya, who did the offertory. The mass started at 7:00pm and finished at 8:30pm, but we had to arrive before 6:30 to take the photos from the professionals. We had to choose a saint name, which Monsignor Terry Curtin would use on the night. We had to choose a saint because the saint that we have chosen is here to pray and guide us. We had to do quite a few of practises before the night happened. I was the very first one to arrive at the photo shoot and the 4th to arrive was my friend Celina. On the night it all went nice and smoothly. Once Confirmation had finished my entire family went to a restaurant to have dinner. Doce

Andrey’s Migration Story

Andrey.F. was 23 years old when he had arrived in Australia in 2008 on the 18th of october. He had left Venezuela at 8 in the morning on the 16 of oct 2008, 2 days later he got to Australia around 3 in the afternoon. Andrey came alone so he didn’t have as much of trouble to buy the tickets and move to Australia, but it was hard for him to buy the tickets because he had to compare the different prices from each ticket. Since Andrey came alone her felt very nevus and scared to travel on his own. Andrey took a few months to move to Australia because of the trouble he had to buy the visa. A  visa is similar to a passport, where you use to move from one country another or to visit. Before Andrey had arrived in Australia, he had to go through a lot of paper work and tests to move to from his country to Australia. Andrey’s travel plan to move to Australia was from Maracaibo to Mami which is in the U.S.A then from Miami to Los Angeles then from Los Angeles to Sydney then from Sydney to Melbourne, which is where he met his other part of his family.

No plans got changed, everything was on time. When Andrey bought the visa and tickets, he got it on time. Andrey’s flights went well and he arrived on time, expect for his last one… When Andrey arrived at Sydney, he had to walk to the other airport which took a pretty long time so he lost his last flight to Melbourne, he also felt very nervous. Once Andrey arrived at the airport he had to wait 2 long hours to go on another flight that goes straight to Melbourne. When Andrey arrived his 2 brother’s family were there to pick him up. Andrey saw his brothers, nieces, nephew and sisters in law. Their names are Adelmo (brother), Enrique (brother), Vanessa (sister in law), Linda (sister in law), Camila (niece), Victoria (niece), Valeria (niece) and Alessandro (nephew). For Andrey Franco it was hard to leave his other part of his family behind. He said “it’s because you don’t have them near you any more, you don’t get to see them anymore and if you want to see them you have to travel to where they are, but to travel you need a lot of time and money”. Andrey moved to Australia because he was expecting a good opportunity on having a good life. He heard all of this from his brothers that told him that Australia has a good public transport, good education and has better opportunities on having a better life. Andrey also came here to study and to have a good future and education.

Andrey also chose Australia because his brothers had told him that Melbourne was one of the most liveable cities in the world and that Australia provides good living standard life style and better opportunities. He thinks that Australia is better now because there are better public transport, shopping centres, school, jobs, there are more places, you can learn better things, you can have a better education and more. His english has improved from 2008 to 2014. Andrey also got to know more about the culture of Australia which he enjoyed. He also said, “ there are more places and you can learn better things”. Andrey felt very excited because this would be a new challenge for him. This meant that he would have to learn a new language and culture. Andrey was also very excited because he would get to meet his other part of the family that he hasn’t seen in a lot of months. Andrey would also find exciting and difficult challenges along his journey. He thought that Australia had changed a lot but in a really good way, he than gave examples, there are more train stations, roads, jobs, opportunities, so things are changing but for the better.

Andrey said, “that Australia is very different from Venezuela because Venezuela is a fair well country, which means that the political system, social system, and the acronym system are different, but Australia is not a fair well country”. Andrey started studying accounting. Once he graduated from his university, he found a job of accounting and he continued his life from then. Andrey know has a professional job and is developing his life in Australia in good and positive way. Andrey had to leave a lot of storage behind because there are limits with luggages of how much the luggages weigh or how many you bring or what you are bringing with you. The things that Andrey couldn’t bring he left it in his old bedroom in his parents house. Andrey has gone back to Venezuela once. In 2012 in December to spend christmas with his parents. Before he came to Australia he has been to other countries such as: Italy, Spain and the U.S.A.

How is Genius Hour going?

What have you chosen to learn about?  I have chosen to learn on how does a chemical reaction happen and what causes?

Where are you up to in the process? My group and I are up to finishing Colur Changing (with milk)  of some posters, and still trying to get all of the ingredients.

What is working well in your project? We have found lot’s of information and most of our poster and done.

What have you found difficult? Getting the ingredients and materials, and planning on how we are going to present.

What do you need to focus on the next few weeks? We need to focus on finishing of the posters and video, getting the ingredients and materials.

Genius Hour

What is Genius Hour? Genius Hour is an Inquiry where you can research on a topic that you are most interested in and want to find out more about it.

What have I chosen to learn about? I have chosen to learn on how does a chemical reaction happen? and why?

Why did I choose this topic? I chose it  because I have wondered what makes it do the reaction and why is it important.

How am I getting my information? I am getting it from reading books, talking to my family members, searching on the internet, and discussing with my group.

How am I planing to present my final project? When my group is going to present we would do 3 experiments and tell what caused the reaction and why, and we will also explain how it happens.

What have I found difficult so far? Finding information.

What have I enjoyed so far? I enjoyed planning and figuring out what we need for our experiments.

What have I learnt about Genius Hour that I will do different/better next time? My group would get more prepared and ready and try to get everything organised.

Welcome!

Hi! My name is Camila, and this is my blog!

On this blog, I will be posting a lot about my school projects and work, but also I will be writing about other things as well!

Please feel free to comment on my posts and give feedback!  I will be posting regularly!

I will be posting more soon, so don’t go away!

Biogas Digesters

Biogas digesters represent a good way to recycle. This technology has been
around for many years in countries such as India, parts of Africa and
South America. Today, some countries such as the United Sates, the United
Kingdom, Germany, Sweden and Australia are improving this technology for
better use in their local communities.

The technology Biogas is a system designed to turn organic waste products
into usable energy. Biogas is a kind of gas that is produced to reuse
organic waste that had been already used.Biogas is like a big recycling
machine. It’s a pollution free resource, so that means it would be no harm
to nature. Which is good because that means if we have more technology of
Biogas then we wouldn’t need to use our other resources that create
pollution.

A biogas digester takes in your food scraps, grass clippings, and any
other type of organic material and changes it through a natural process.
The 2 main things of this process are Methane and Fertiliser. Methane is a
gas that can be used to cook food, heat our homes, and produce electricity
sustainably. The Fertiliser is a nutrient [makes the thing grow] rich
liquid that can replace expensive chemical Fertilisers and can be used to
grow more food. The food scraps can be placed in the biogas digester and
continue this sustainable cycle for generations to come.

Biogas digesters use a simple technology. The Biogas digester takes in the
organic waste and uses the bacteria to break it done. Once it’s broken
done it would eventually produce methane and fertiliser. The waste can be
used as a natural fertiliser and the methane can be burned as a fuel for
heating or to produce electricity. The biogas digester can make use of
almost any organic material that can rot. So, everything from grass
cuttings to leftover sandwiches and vegetables can be processed because it
can rot.

Biogas is a technology that recycles the waste and turns it into something
better. Biogas helps our lives in many ways. It’s a pollution free
resource so obviously it won’t pollute when it’s working. It’s really
helpful for the local community because apparently we have a lot of waste
and the biogas digester turns that waste into methane and fertiliser which
we then use again.
